MPS Weekly Update | November 29, 2024
It’s hard to believe that we are already transitioning to the final month of the year, with a beautiful winter landscape to remind us it’s nearly December. We have just concluded our Semester 1 School Conferences with great engagement from our parent community. If you were unable to attend or your child’s teacher was fully booked, please reach out to them directly to set up a mutually agreeable time to meet virtually, on the phone or in person. While School Conferences are an important time to connect with your child’s teachers, we encourage you to reach out at any point with questions or concerns.
Schools have now posted updated key documentation on our website, including our 2024-2025 School Development Plan, School Improvement Results Report and Report to Parents on Fees. Please take a moment to read this information to get a better understanding of how we use data to inform our decisions and reach out directly should you have any questions.
School Dance | Dec 5
We will be having our first school dance of the year on Thursday, December 5 from 5pm – 8pm. All grade 6-9 Mountain Park students are welcome to attend. The cost will be $5 at the door and there will be a concession stand open with snacks, drinks, and pizza for purchase. We are in need of parent volunteers for this event. If you are able to volunteer, and have your volunteer clearance, please reach out to Ms. LeBlanc hlleblanc@cbe.ab.ca
Sports Performance Field Trip | Dec 10
If you are a parent of a Grade 9 student in Sports Performance, we have a volunteer opportunity on the morning of December 10 to accompany us on our field trip! Please contact cjfeenstra@cbe.ab.ca if you have police security clearance and for more details.
Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you for supporting the Scholastic book fair in our school last week. Our school raised $714 in reward dollars to be used towards new school resources. We are very grateful to all those who participated.
MPS Learning Lounge
A reminder that in-person Learning Support Sessions continue to be available for students each morning before classes in the MPS Learning Commons. We are targeting two core subject areas each day in alignment with our 2024-2025 School Development Plan: Mathematics and Literacy. Subject area teachers in these areas are present to provide an additional layer of support for those students who wish to access it as follows:
- Monday - Thursday from 8:30-9:00 am
- Front doors will be unlocked for student entry from 8:25-8:35 am only.
- Students must be here by 8:35 at the latest in order to make effective use of this support. Students arriving after this time will need to wait until the doors re-open at the morning bell.
- Students are welcome to attend as often as needed but must come prepared to learn with assignments, homework, test review or specific topics they require support with (ex. polynomials, persuasive essay writing, etc.).
- Students will be provided access to computers when required to utilize D2L and written assignment work only.
CBE Fees
Semester 1 fees are now past due for payment. We encourage you to please take a look at the fees located under the Student Fees & Service registration tab when you log into your MyCBE/PowerSchool account as field trips and team sport fees are updated regularly. Second semester fees have also been applied to your account, but parents can wait to pay these fees until the second semester begins on January 28, 2025.
If you have any questions about your account, please click this useful link full for technical support: https://cbe.ab.ca/support/Pages/MyCBE-PowerSchool.aspx or contact our front office for support.
Healthy Hunger
If your student is absent for any reason on the day of Healthy Hunger, please let the office know by 11:30 am if you wish to pick up their lunch so that it may be reserved. Reserved lunches can be picked up anytime after 12:30 pm on the same day. If the office isn’t notified by this time, the lunch will be donated. Please also notify the office if a sibling at MPS will be picking up the lunch. Thank you for your understanding.
