Summer Math 15 | Registration Closes May 24

Current Grade 9 student wishing to register for Math 15 this summer are asked to consider the following information about this course:

·       Math 15 is a useful course to fill gaps in preparation for grade 10 math, it does not teach grade 10 math concepts

·       Math 15 is a three credit course that will show up on the student’s high school transcript

·       Students will gain access to this online course on June 25 but will not have access to teachers until July 2

·       Every student must ensure they are able to access the Math 15 course shell (in Brightspace/D2L) by June 27. If a student cannot access their course they should contact Mountain Park School first for assistance – check this when completing the ‘Essentials’ course

·       The Math 15 course closes on July 25

·       This course is an asynchronous course:

o   This means there are no mandatory online meetings/classes with the teacher

o   Teachers will be expected to offer an optional one hour per day synchronous meeting

o   Communication with the teacher, through the D2L shell is critical to a student’s success

o   Students can accelerate their learning and complete the course early

o   D2L may not work outside of Canada

·       The withdrawal deadline is July 11:

o   Before June 28 students are asked to contact Mountain Park School

o   After June 28 the student needs to contact their Math 15 teacher in writing through their D2L Shell

o   The student’s final course mark will show up on their high school transcript if they don’t withdraw by July 11

·       Every student will be asked to complete ‘Essentials for Learning’ prior to beginning Math 15

o   Essentials for Learning will show up as a shell in Brightspace/D2L

o   Highly recommended for grade nine students

o   Successful completion of Essentials for Learning will appear as a single credit on the student’s high school transcript

o   Essentials for Learning will open on June 17 and close on July 9

Should you wish to register your child for this course, please contact Ms. Hildebrand in our main office via email at nchildebrand@cbe.ab.ca, by May 24th. All students will receive a confirmation email during the week of June 3-7. If you have not received confirmation by June 7, please contact CBe-learn via email: cbelearn@cbe.ab.ca

MPS Learning Lounge

A reminder that in-person Learning Support Sessions continue to be available for students each morning before classes in the MPS Learning Commons. We are targeting two core subject areas each day which are identified in our School Development Plan for 2023-2024: Mathematics and Literacy. Subject area teachers in these areas are present to provide an additional layer of support for those students who wish to access it as follows:

·       Monday - Thursday from 8:30-9:00 am

·       Front doors will be unlocked for student entry from 8:25-8:35 am only. Students must be here by 8:35 at the latest in order to make effective use of this support. Students arriving after this time will need to wait until the doors re-open at the morning bell.

·       Students are welcome to attend as often as needed but must come prepared to learn with assignments, homework, test review or specific topics they require support with (ex. polynomials, persuasive essay writing, etc.).

·       Students will be provided access to computers when required to utilize D2L and written assignment work only
