Year-End Spring Dance
We will be having our final dance for the 2023/24 school year on Thursday, June 13th from 5pm – 8pm. All grade 6-9 Mountain Park students are welcome to attend. The cost will be $5 at the door and there will be a concession stand open with snacks, drinks, and pizza for purchase. We will be in need of parent volunteers for this event. If you are able to volunteer, and have your volunteer clearance, please reach out to Ms. LeBlanc at hlleblanc@cbe.ab.ca.
Update | Grade 9 Farewell | Thursday, June 20
Invitations for the Grade 9 Farewell have been sent home with each grade 9 student earlier this week. If your child did not receive a form, please check their teachers’ D2L shell. RSVP forms are due back by Monday, May 27th and payment through your MyCBE PowerSchool account of $45 is due by Friday, June 7th.
In addition to this, we are also ordering MPS “Class of 2024” hoodies. These are an optional purchase. The ordering information for these can be found on the farewell form. These hoodies will have a strict deadline of Monday, May 27th so that we can have them ready before the end of the school year. Should you wish to order a hoodie, it is cash only.
Lastly, we are planning a grade 9 Picnic during the final week of classes with lunch generously provided by our School Council. More details to follow.
Please reach out to Ms. LeBlanc with any questions: hlleblanc@cbe.ab.ca
Fees Past Due
We have many school-based fees that remain unpaid. Please review your MyCBE PowerSchool account for outstanding fees. These are located under the Student Fees & Service Registration tab and include field trips, optional course fees, noon hour activity fee and athletics. If you require support with accessing MyCBE PowerSchool account, please contact our main office at 403-777-6442 and dial 0.
Track Meet
MPS Track and Field is fast approaching. We have the Track Meet on June 5
at Foothills Track, 2431 Crowchild Trail NW. If you would like to volunteer for the day, please email Mrs. Gaunt at brgaunt@cbe.ab.ca
Action Required | Next Year Registration
If families with students in grade 6-8 are not returning to MPS next year, please send an email to loataylor@cbe.ab.ca as this information is critical to our planning related to resources and staffing.
MPS Learning Lounge
A reminder that in-person Learning Support Sessions continue to be available for students each morning before classes in the MPS Learning Commons. We are targeting two core subject areas each day which are identified in our School Development Plan for 2023-2024: Mathematics and Literacy. Subject area teachers in these areas are present to provide an additional layer of support for those students who wish to access it as follows:
· Monday - Thursday from 8:30-9:00 am
· Front doors will be unlocked for student entry from 8:25-8:35 am only. Students must be here by 8:35 at the latest in order to make effective use of this support. Students arriving after this time will need to wait until the doors re-open at the morning bell.
· Students are welcome to attend as often as needed but must come prepared to learn with assignments, homework, test review or specific topics they require support with (ex. polynomials, persuasive essay writing, etc.).
· Students will be provided access to computers when required to utilize D2L and written assignment work only.
Band
Please visit our MPS Band webpage for updates, monthly newsletters, current events and fundraising information.
Band 9 students (along with a handful of Grade 7 and 8s) participated in the Alberta Band Association Festival of Bands on Tuesday, May 21st in Red Deer. The adjudicators were very impressed with the Mountain Park band students, awarding them a Superior Band Award, the top award of the festival. Congratulations to these students, and to Ms. Wahl, who have worked very hard this year to receive this recognition - you make us all proud!
Grade 7/8 Band will have early morning rehearsals on Wednesdays May 29th, and June 5th at 8:00 am to prepare for the spring concert.
Jazz Band will be performing at Heritage Park on Sunday, May 26th. Students need to be there for 9:15 am at the front entrance gazebo.
