MPS Weekly Update | November 15, 2024

It was a short but busy week after the Fall Break, with plenty of learning and activity as we move into the second quarter and upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences. Please see the updates below as we head into the weekend:

School Council

You are invited to attend our November School Council Meeting on Monday, November 18 at 6:30 pm in the Learning Commons. All parents/guardians welcome!

Parent/Teacher Conferences | Nov 28-29

Teachers are looking forward to meeting with students and their parents/guardians to discuss learning progress. This is an excellent opportunity to connect, clarify needed information and to ensure that each MPS student is successful.

When:

·       Thursday, Nov 28 | 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm (in person @ MPS)

·       Friday, Nov 29 22 | 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (virtual)

How:

·       Log in to School Conference Manager and book starting at 6:00 pm on Wed., Nov 20

·       The booking system will close at 9:00 am on Thur., Nov 28

Please Note:

·       Each individual teacher requires a separate meeting. For example, if your child has 8 different teachers (math, science, language arts, social studies, P.E., homeroom, foods, art), and you want to meet with every teacher, you would need to book 8 different conferences.

·       It is not required to book a conference with every teacher - unless you want to!

·       Check out this short ‘how-to’ video to walk you through booking a conference. Technical help is also available for booking and joining conferences.

·       In advance of your scheduled meeting time, we recommend that you take a few minutes to review your student’s progress and updated marks in PowerSchool and prepare any questions you may have for the teacher. As a refresher, we have another ‘how-to’ video on how to view Assignments and Marks in PowerSchool.

Please contact our main office if you have any questions.

Scholastic Book Fair | Nov 25-29

The Scholastic Book Fair is once again coming to Mountain Park School! From November 25-29, discover new and bestselling titles coming right to our school. Every purchase supports our school and keeps kids reading. The Fair will be open during MPS Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, Nov 28th from 5-8pm. See you at the Fair!

Sports Performance Field Trip | Dec 10

If you are a parent of a Grade 9 student in Sports Performance, we have a volunteer opportunity on the morning of December 10 to accompany us on our field trip! Please contact cjfeenstra@cbe.ab.ca if you have police security clearance and for more details.

Child and Youth Wellbeing

During the month of November, the CBE invites all parents and guardians to join us in a Well-Being Series. Attached, you will find the Child and Youth Well-Being, Family and Caregiver Fall Series resources. These include both live sessions that can be registered for as well as recorded sessions to access when convenient for you.

Grade 10 IB Program

Future IB Warriors and families! The Henry Wise Wood High School International Baccalaureate Program Information Night is happening on Wednesday, November 20th at 7:00pm in the HWW King Gymnasium for current Grade 9 students looking to apply for the IB program for the 2025-26 school year. Topics will include an overview of the IB program at Henry Wise Wood with components and requirements, university recognition, costs and benefits of the program. The evening will also be available online - the link and subsequent video can be found at info.hwwib.ca.

Healthy Hunger

If your student is absent for any reason on the day of Healthy Hunger, please let the office know by 11:30 am if you wish to pick up their lunch so that it may be reserved. Reserved lunches can be picked up anytime after 12:30 pm on the same day. If the office isn’t notified by this time, the lunch will be donated. Please also notify the office if a sibling at MPS will be picking up the lunch. Thank you for your understanding.
