MPS Weekly Update | December 20, 2024
Winter Break is upon us and it has been a wonderful week filled with learning and celebration. Please see the final updates for 2024 below:
Sports Performance Field Trip | January 9 – Forms and Volunteers
After our first successful field trip of the semester we look forward to our next one coming up on Thursday, January 9. Forms need to be in by Wednesday, January 8 at 4 pm and can be obtained from Mr. Feenstra or on the sports performance D2L shell. Volunteers are needed for the full day field trip.
Volleyball Tryouts
Volleyball tryouts will begin when students return from Winter Break. The schedule will be shared in the final weekly update before Winter Break as well as on the PE D2L shell. A reminder that grade 8s and 9s are welcome to try-out for the senior team. Grade 6/7/8 are welcome to try-out for the junior team. Lunch time intramurals will be volleyball when we return from Winter Break.
Grade 6 and 7 | Be Brave Hitmen Game
All Grade 6 & 7 students, please return signed field trip forms to your homeroom teacher for the Calgary Hitmen game!
If you are in need of forms, please call the main office @ 403-777-6442 and they can help you.
There are some great opportunities for some special student experiences at the Hitmen Be Brave game in February. If interested, parents can check out the following link:

Upcoming Field Trips in Need of Volunteers
Grade 6's are going to Youth link on March 4 (6-1), March 5 (6-2), March 6 (6-4),
March 10 (6-3), March 11 (6-5). This is a health related field trip about Cyber Safety and Security online.
If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Mrs. Gaunt to see if you have your police security clearance. Thanks so much for considering to volunteer your time.
MPS Learning Lounge | Resuming in 2025
A reminder that in-person Learning Support Sessions will continue to be available for students each morning before classes in the MPS Learning Commons as follows:
· Monday - Thursday from 8:30-9:00 am
· Front doors will be unlocked for student entry from 8:25-8:35 am only. Students must be here by 8:35 at the latest in order to make effective use of this support. Students arriving after this time will need to wait until the doors re-open at the morning bell.
· Students are welcome to attend as often as needed but must come prepared to learn with assignments, homework, test review or specific topics they require support with (ex. polynomials, persuasive essay writing, etc.).
· Students will be provided access to computers when required to utilize D2L and written assignment work only
Band
Bottle Drive - January 4th, 1:00-4:00pm. Meet at the school for 1:00pm. Volunteers to drive will be needed. The following link can be filled out to volunteer and to let us know if your student can attend: https://forms.gle/jsrqAaPdXAj1MZqc9 OR email mpsmpsmusic@gmail.com. If you have bottles you'd like us to pick up that day, please email and we'll add you to our route. Additionally, a trailer will be parked outside the school if you would like to drop off bottles between 1:00-4:00pm.
Jazz Band - Will resume January 7th at lunch
MPS Music Parents Society is looking for a Grade 6 rep and a few people to serve on a fundraising committee. Please reach out to Ms. Hurdman at mpsmpsmusic@gmail.com if you are interested.
Band forms have been sent home. Please have them filled out and returned ASAP, along with the Band Resource Fee payment. If you still need to fill out the online Band Resource Form, click here. The Music Instrument Rental Fee is now on Powerschool and can be paid.
Fundraisers

No plastic jugs, just compressed soap strips that clean your laundry, toilet bowls, laundry stains, kitchens, and dishes! This is an ongoing fundraiser. December 23rd to the 29th - Buy 2 of any Laundry Strips and receive FREE Wool Dryer Balls!
