MPS Weekly Update | June 19, 2026

Physical Education

As the school year comes to a close, we are accepting donations of gently used MPS gym clothing. If your student is moving on to Grade 10 and no longer needs/wants their gym clothes, we would greatly appreciate any donations to support future students.

Gym clothing can be sent to school with your student or dropped off at the office.

With the warm weather, we are seeing more students wearing summer footwear to school. Please remember that students need proper running shoes for Physical Education classes.  Thank you for your help in keeping students safe while being physically active.

IPPs

Individual Program Plans (IPPs) were sent home on June 15th for your review. Thank you for taking the time to carefully look through your student’s plan and support their learning goals. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the IPP further, please reach out to your student’s IPP advocate. Signed IPPs are due back by Monday, June 22.

Library News

We still have 68 library books outstanding. If your child has any overdue library books at home, please return them as soon as possible.

Let's see how quickly we can reduce that number and get our library shelves ready for next year. Ready, set, return!

Spring Reminders

The beautiful weather we have long awaited is finally here. With it, we want to remind students of a few expectations that will help keep our school community clean and safe while focused on learning in the remaining weeks of the school year.

Bikes, Scooters & Skateboards

We are happy to see so many students choosing active transportation to and from school. For everyone’s safety, students are asked to walk their bikes, scooters, and skateboards while on school grounds. The City of Calgary strongly recommends helmet use for all wheeled activities, and helmets are required by law when riding bikes and e-bikes.

Beverages

To help keep our school clean and support healthy choices, students are encouraged to bring non-spill water bottles to school. Slurpees, iced-cap-style drinks, open pop, and energy drinks should not be brought into the building. Sealed beverages may be stored in student lockers until lunchtime or after school.

Provincial Achievement Tests

Students in grades 6 and 9 are in the midst of writing PATs and they have been going smoothly. Teachers have worked with students in advance to ensure they are familiar with both the format and technology used, along with helpful test-writing strategies that can be applied across subject areas. We recognize that this can be a stressful time for students and frame this assessment as one snapshot among many throughout the year that informs what students understand. Simple strategies at home such as getting sufficient sleep and having a good breakfast, are great ways to support students the day of the test. A reminder that classes run as usual on all days with scheduled PATs and attendance in the afternoons is expected.

Preliminary PAT results will be sent home with students between June 24 and June 26.

Report Cards

Final report cards will be available to families through the PowerSchool Parent Portal beginning June 25.

Action Required | Next Year Registration

If families with students in grade 6-8 are not returning to MPS next year, please send an email to naduffy@cbe.ab.ca as this information is critical to our planning related to resources and staffing.

School Fees

As we wrap up the final weeks of the school year, we are asking all parents and guardians to check their MyCBE PowerSchool account for any outstanding fees. These are located under the Student Fees & Service Registration tab and include field trips, option course fees, noon hour activity fee and athletics.
