Weekly Update April 19, 2024

New Student Open House

On Thursday, April 18, we hosted an open house for all families new to MPS for the coming year. We had a fantastic turn out and were able to show case highlights of our excellent programming and Wolverine pride. We received many positive comments, but one of my favourites was “all the teachers have so much energy and seem genuinely happy to work here…” Thank you to all our talented staff and students who make our school shine every day and for making the evening a great success!

Next Year Registration

If families with students in grade 6-8 are not returning to MPS next year, please send an email to loataylor@cbe.ab.ca as this helps us with planning.

School Council Meeting

Parents, guardians and community members are welcome to attend our upcoming School Council meeting on Monday, April 22 starting at 6:30 pm in the Learning Commons.

Student Dress Code

With warmer weather ever-so-slowly approaching, we ask for parents/guardians to review our Student Dress Code with their student to support selections that are appropriate for an educational setting. This encourages a collective focus on optimal learning environments, maintaining student learning and well-being at the centre of our community.

MPS Learning Lounge

A reminder that in-person Learning Support Sessions continue to be available for students each morning before classes in the MPS Learning Commons. We are targeting two core subject areas each day which are identified in our School Development Plan for 2023-2024: Mathematics and Literacy. Subject area teachers in these areas are present to provide an additional layer of support for those students who wish to access it as follows:

  • Monday - Thursday from 8:30-9:00 am.
  • Front doors will be unlocked for student entry from 8:25-8:35 am only. Students must be here by 8:35 at the latest in order to make effective use of this support. Students arriving after this time will need to wait until the doors re-open at the morning bell.
  • Students are welcome to attend as often as needed but must come prepared to learn with assignments, homework, test review or specific topics they require support with (ex. polynomials, persuasive essay writing, etc.).
  • Students will be provided access to computers.

Fees

We encourage all parents and guardians to review your MyCBE PowerSchool account for outstanding fees. These are located under the Student Fees & Service Registration tab and include field trips, optional course fees, noon hour activity fee and athletics.

Library

On behalf of our entire school, thank you for supporting our Scholastic Book Fair!

We have earned Scholastic Dollars to better our school, and could not have done it without your help.

We look forward to the next time we can have a Book Fair with you!

Track Meet

MPS Track and Field is fast approaching. We have the Track Meet on June 5 at Foothills Track, 2431 Crowchild Trail NW.  If you would like to volunteer for the day, please email Mrs. Gaunt at brgaunt@cbe.ab.ca.

Readiness for Learning

Arriving to each class prepared with basic supplies, including a binder, pencil and paper is an essential component to engagement in students’ learning. Please remind your student of this important responsibility and ensure they have the supplies they require, encouraging them to bring home their binder to organize regularly.
